Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about the free online prime factorization.
Enter a whole number and press Factorize. The tool lists every prime factor and also shows
the compact exponent form.
It rewrites a number as a product of primes. For example 12 becomes 2 x 2 x 3, which is 2
squared multiplied by 3.
Grouping repeated factors as powers keeps long factorizations readable, so 360 is shown as
2^3 times 3^2 times 5.
Add one to each exponent and multiply the results. For 12 = 2^2 times 3 that is 3 times 2,
giving six divisors.
A prime factorizes to itself, so the tool shows a single factor and explains that the number
has no smaller divisors.
Numbers up to one trillion are factorized by trial division, which is fast enough to feel
instant in your browser.
Enter the positive value instead. Prime factorization is defined for whole numbers greater
than one, so signs are ignored.
No. Factorization happens locally in your browser and no value you enter is ever sent to a
server.
