Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about the free online bitwise calculator.
AND keeps a bit only when both values have a one in that position, so it is often used to
mask bits off.
OR sets a bit when either value has a one there, which is how you turn individual bits on.
XOR sets a bit when the two values differ there, so it flips bits that are one in only one
operand.
They are the AND and OR results with every bit flipped, so NAND clears a bit whenever both
inputs are one.
NOT flips every bit of the first value across the chosen width, so the second value is
ignored.
The bits above the chosen width are dropped, so flipping 45 at 8 bits gives a different
pattern from flipping it at 32 bits.
Each row is one bit position showing both input bits and the outcome for every operation, so
you can check the logic.
Yes. Enter a minus sign and the value is held in twos complement form at the chosen width.
It gives both the unsigned value and the signed twos complement reading of the result.
Yes. The calculation is local, free and never sends your values anywhere.
