Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about the free online molarity calculator.
Molarity is the number of moles of solute dissolved in one litre of solution. It is written
as mol/L and is also called molar concentration.
Divide the moles of solute by the volume of the solution in litres. For 0.1 mol in 1 litre
the molarity is 0.1 mol/L.
Divide the mass in grams by the molar mass to get moles, then divide by the volume in litres.
This tool does both steps at once.
Sodium chloride has a molar mass of 58.44 g/mol, so 5.85 g is 0.1001 mol and the solution is
about 0.1 mol/L.
Yes. Choose the target molarity option, enter the molarity and the volume, and the tool
reports the mass of solute to weigh out.
The calculator expects litres. Divide millilitres by 1000 first, so 250 mL becomes 0.25 L
before you enter the volume.
No. The calculation happens entirely in your browser and nothing you type is stored or
transmitted anywhere.
Yes. Molarity is based on volume, which expands with heat, so a solution made at one
temperature can change slightly when warmed.
