Frequently Asked Questions
Common questions about the free online css color converter.
HEX, HEX with alpha, RGB, RGBA, HSL, HSLA, HSV, HWB, LAB and LCH, each written in its CSS
function form and ready to paste.
RGBA adds a fourth alpha channel between zero and one, so the colour can be partly
transparent on its own without a separate opacity rule.
Use them when you need perceptually even steps, such as building a palette where every shade
looks equally far from the next.
Hue, whiteness and blackness. It is often easier than HSL for mixing a hue towards white or
black without touching its saturation.
LAB and LCH can describe colours that sRGB screens cannot show. The warning means the hex
value is a clipped approximation of your colour.
Yes. Eight digit hex, four digit hex and the alpha argument in rgba(), hsla() and modern
slash syntax are all parsed and reported back.
Yes. Values such as rgb(59 130 246), hsl(217 91% 60%) and lab(52% 20 -70) are accepted, with
either commas or spaces as separators.
Press the Copy button on any row. The value for that row is placed on your clipboard and a
short confirmation message is shown.
No. All parsing and maths run in your browser with plain JavaScript, so no colour value is
uploaded, logged or stored anywhere.
